First, let’s understand what a sedentary lifestyle is? A sedentary lifestyle refers to a pattern of behavior's where an individual spends a significant amount of time sitting or lying down with little to no physical activity. Doing daily chores with very little to no exercise. In today’s hectic life office jobs also become sedentary, with long duration of sitting at a desk without any exercise, watching TV for long periods, or spending leisure time in passive activities.

Nowadays, life is too hectic where everyone is in hurry to reach their place, to complete their work, they even forgot to take staircases. They feel easy to go by using vehicles for small distances. The lack of exercise can have negative effects on health and well-being leading to various health issues such as obesity cardiovascular problems and muscle weakness.

Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy body and mind if you lead a sedentary lifestyle, it is important to incorporate exercise and physical activity into your daily routine for better overall health.

The Risks of a Sedentary Lifestyle

Leading a sedentary lifestyle comes with various health risks that can impact both physical and mental well-being. Some of the potential risks associated with physically inactivity or due to sedentary lifestyle include:

1. Obesity and Weight Gain

A lack of physical activity can lead to weight gain and obesity, as the body burn fewer calories than it consumes means more eating with lack of proper exercise leads to weight gain and after some time person become insulin resistant.

Prolonged inactivity is associated with an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. When we are physically active our brain releases happy hormones serotonin which is a mood boosting chemical in our brain.

Without physical activity less serotonin released so we may have fewer positive feelings and less motivation or feel anxiety and depression. To boost the mental health, one should always be physically active.

Sedentary behavior's can disrupt the body's metabolic processes and makes our metabolism slow. Slower metabolism leads to weight gain, fatigue, colder body temperature and low mood leading to conditions like insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes.

Sitting for long hours Increases stiffness and decreases the flexibility of our muscles which can lead to poor posture and back pain.                                  People who are leading a sedentary life can also develop muscle weakness.
